HometownTV’s Nathan Brewer sat down with Sheriff Derek Manning to discuss the recent “less lethal” training that members of the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office underwent. Manning explains that the training is designed to give deputies an alternative to using deadly force in situations where it may not be necessary.
During the training, deputies were taught how to use less lethal weapons such as tasers, bean bag rounds, and pepper spray. Manning notes that while these weapons are not completely risk-free, they do provide a less lethal option that can help prevent unnecessary injuries or deaths.
The training is part of the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office ongoing effort to improve its capabilities and provide better service to the community. Manning also emphasizes the importance of communication and de-escalation techniques in law enforcement.
