HometownTV’s Nathan Brewer recently sat down with Sheriff Derek Manning to discuss a high-speed chase that took place on April 16, 2023. The chase reached speeds of 144 miles per hour as Wheeler County pursued a vehicle into Oklahoma. Despite the efforts of the Elk City Police Department, the vehicle managed to evade them and was lost in Greer County.
Thankfully, the vehicle was eventually located in a wheat field south of the Beckham County line, but the occupants were nowhere to be found. That’s when a local taxi driver came forward, saying that she had picked up the suspects not long after the chase ended and had driven them to the OKC airport.
Thanks to the cooperation of the Oklahoma City Police Department, the suspects were eventually arrested as they tried to board a flight out of the airport. One suspect was taken into custody on warrants for possession of a stolen vehicle and felony attempting to allude, while the other was released after being interviewed.
During the interview, Sheriff Manning also took the opportunity to plug the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office app, which can be used to stay up to date on the latest news and alerts from the department.
Make sure to watch the video to hear all the details about this dramatic chase and the incredible efforts made by law enforcement to bring the suspects to justice.
